Landing page of the site

BONGO INC lends its name from a text service, ‘Ask Bongo’, that was big in the 2000’s. You’d text the service with your name, and it’d text you back with a playful run down of your personality. The service, however, had the following terms and conditions:

BONGO INC then sought to explore 1) the prospect of personal information as currency, and 2) the conditions upon which this currency could consciously be transferred.

The site mirrored a commercial cam girl platform, to which access required participants to provide identifying details and intimate information. A prerequisite of accessing the live stream was that the participants consented to their information being recorded, stored, and presented publicly, Participants frequently questioned whether the performer was a real person or an AI avatar + automated system. Many indicated increased willingness to disclose information under the belief that the performer was not a real person.

All submitted material was retained and may be reproduced, exhibited, or published as part of the ongoing artwork.
